Early spring!

Comments Off

The weather is almost summer-like, the flowers are blooming, my husband is out mowing the lawn for the second time this season, and it’s not even officially spring yet! I am not complaining!

We’re in the midst of a very warm end of winter, along with most of the country (hah, it’s warmer here than it is in Southern Cal). Which is really nice because it’s also mini-marathon training season! The mini is in two months. Our longest walk so far has been about 8-1/4 miles, and we’ve even been rained on. So far, so good. :-)

I’m still in the “thinking about submitting” stage with the writing, so I’ve pulled out one of the two novels that I think are closest to final, and the longer one of the two: The Third Time’s the Charm. And I realize now that it has its own share of problems. I have no idea where this story fits, genre-wise. It should fit in romance except for the small problem that the MMC isn’t introduced until a quarter of the way in. *sigh* The only straight up romance that I’ve written was my 50k-words-in-9-days novel for 2010 NaNoWriMo. Where do the rest of my books fit? I just don’t know.

I could try introducing the MMC earlier, but it would be forced. I could try cutting the first five chapters. Tempting, but then I’ll need an info dump at some point and I hate those. I can hear someone saying that half of those first few chapter is Boring, and I’d agree with them, but that’s where I get stuck. There are certain things that need to be introduced and how do I do it somewhere in between info-dump and five chapters of Boring? *sigh again* This is when I just stop and say “not worth publishing” and write whatever I darned well want to. Which then defeats the purpose of even working on the darned thing right now.

But I’m plugging along.

On a music note (haha, pun) I might just have my first violin student starting next fall. The neighbor girl around the corner is starting violin in middle school and overheard me practicing outside yesterday and asked me if I’d give her lessons. I told her I could give it a shot. It’ll probably me little more than guiding her outside of the classroom, since she’ll be getting instruction in school, but it should be an interesting experience. Funny to think of teaching when I’m still a student myself. ;-)

Cleaning house

Comments Off

Well, one thing to do while waiting for NaNoWriMo to begin is catch up on all the things that will not get done during November. Yesterday and today we did a deep clean of the kitchen (then cooked and promptly messied it up again. ;) ) I also tidied up around the rest of the house. Next week will be some more cleaning, cooking, and then writing at midnight on Sunday. I am somehow still going to manage to get Monday off from work!

It is nice to have a tidied up house. I ought to do it more often. ::blush::

(8 days…or just over 7…)
